Summerside PEI

Summerside is one of Canada's most popular tourist destinations and is the starting point for the North Cape Coastal Drive.

It's a place where cultural energies mix with modern flavour, where heritage and the arts are highly valued by a vibrant and diverse community, that proudly celebrates and shares its history with visitors. Lots of different cottages and hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and beach houses are available in the town and close to Summerside for your convenience.

Summerside Arts & Craft
Browse the artwork of the island's artists at the Adam Sultan Art Studio and review the exhibits at the Eptek Art & Culture Centre, where you'll view the culture and life on the island through the handiwork of artists past and present.

Gallery 33 promotes emerging artists through exhibitions from June to September and also offers some artistic education and courses.

Island Insider: Catch an art class at Lefurgey Cultural Centre while you're in town & get your creative juices flowing.

Summerside Culture & History
Tour the Wyatt Historic House and travel back to the 1890s with one of the island's most prominent families.

Inspect the old lathes and gadgets at the Bishop Machine Shop or browse the old newspapers at the MacNaught History Centre & Archives.

Explore the historic district with a guide and then catch a performance at the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre afterwards.

The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada run their impressive Celtic Concert Series in July and August each year. Throughout the summer, you’ll find different piping, drumming and dancing events to get you into the Celtic spirit. Plan to get tickets for Highland Storm, a production of music and Celtic talent; a feast for the eyes and ears!

Don't forget to be around for the PEI Summerside Lobster Carnival that happens annually in July and check out our Festivals & Events page for details of other festivities in Summerside through the year.

Island Insider: Take a leisurely stroll through the town and follow the trail of the Heritage Murals that depict the history of the town through the ages.

Summerside Shopping
Spring Street Farmer's Market has some yummy home-made goodies, as well as locally-made arts and crafts. Homestead Antiques, Gifts and Gardens is one of Canadian Home & Country magazine's “best shops” on the island and brims with gifts and collectibles.
Spinnakers Landing is a great marketplace, with the look of an old fishing village, where you can shop, eat or plan your activities in the area at the Visitor Information Centre.

Island Insider: Don't shop until you drop though, or you'll be too tired to walk our scenic boardwalk with great views of the harbour and city.
